I've been playing tenor for ten years and without doubt Gene Ammons is the biggest influence on me. I know the very basic biographical information on him, but I haven't been able to find out much else about Gene over here in England. Specifically has there ever been any books written about him. If anyone has any information about "Jug" I'd really appreciate it. Regards, Russ

Gene Ammons is the sound of Chicago jazz. Pretty but tough. His long career mirrored the changes in music. He played it all....

Could you just imagine the extent of all the fantastic stuff that he would have additionally recorded, if not for all those "lost years" ? ! Nevertheless, both the enormous beauty of his sound, and uniqueness of style still "touches". He nevers sound "dated", and his impact on a multitude of tenor players that came after him is quite a tribute to him (this includes, "yours truly"). "Rest In Peace, Jug"...........
